Mrs. Mankowski specified that activities are to be resident-inspired—and so quite a variety is offered! They vary month to month and have included: movies with a resident-cooked meal, hymn sings, lunch at a local restaurant, arts and crafts, cardmaking, metaphysical sharing, book clubs, listening to Christian Science lectures or The Mother Church Wednesday testimony service, participating in Bible workshops, and visits to the beach, local art galleries, live performances, and more.
Our van service offers free transportation to local church services and meetings, lectures, concerts, theater productions, and restaurants. A van will also drive you to local grocery stores, banks and post offices, libraries and shopping malls, big box stores, and Glendora Avenue.
There are many local and regional attractions to visit, such as the Norton Simon Museum, the Huntington Library and Gardens, the Nixon Library, and the Sam Maloof Home and Workshop. Also nearby are Disneyland, the Getty Museum, Knotts Berry Farm, and Universal Studios. Van trips to these sites are scheduled throughout the year.
Another source of enriching activity are two local colleges. Citrus Community College offers academic classes as well as music, choir, dancing, golf, swimming, and tennis. Some residents and staff take undergraduate or graduate courses at Azusa Pacific University has welcomed our staff and residents in both undergraduate and graduate classes. Both schools offer concerts and plays at reasonable prices.
You’ll find a complete set of Bound Volumes, Bible study tools, and access to JSH Online in our living room. The activities room features a large-screen TV with cable programming, including movie channels. Hundreds of movies on DVD are available to watch or check out for home viewing.
You decide what you’d like to do and how much you’d like to do! There’s no requirement to participate, but there’s plenty of opportunity to get involved or start a new activity — to meet and make new friends!
